Updated: Jul 17, 2021

Oil, balm and wax are completely different products, each fulfilling its own role. Here are the differences:

BEARD OIL

Beard oil is a hydrating and nourishing mixture that, if it is of good quality, hydrates the skin under your beard, softens facial hair, reduces itchiness, and nourishes the hair follicles so that your beard grows healthy. The best results are obtained when the oil is of natural origin, in particular when the formula contains essential oils of coconut or jojoba as a base. In addition, these mixtures have a long shelf life without the need for artificial preservatives.

"The oil hydrates the skin, softens facial hair, reduces itchiness, and nourishes the beard."

Beard oil is suitable for any type of beard. That is, whether you have a three-day or 30-year-old beard, beard oil will take care of your skin and your beard, hydrating and nourishing both elements so that your facial hair is healthy and flawless.

It is advisable to start with very few drops, that way you will see the ideal amount for your type of beard. You can apply it every day, for example in the morning or after a good shower with a very dry beard. Just as hair and skin dry out due to changes in temperature, the beard is also damaged by intense heat, cold or any contaminant; so to avoid looking like a scourer it is better to apply a few drops of beard oil daily.

BEARD BALM

Beard balm helps you style and shape your beard while conditioning it. A good beard balm should hydrate your facial hair, nourish the hair follicle, provide a certain hold so that you can style it and give your beard the appearance of thickness.

"The balm helps to style, shape and thicken your beard."

Beard balm is a product recommended for beards with a length of 1 cm and up and for those who want to give it protection and shape. A shorter length does not need a balm as it could hardly be fixed or styled, so beard oil would be a better choice.

HOW TO APPLY THE BEARD BALM?

Use your thumbnail to scoop out a small amount of the beard balm and rub it between your palms until it is diluted. To apply the product, run your fingers and palms over the beard, making sure to rub the balm into the skin where the beard grows to nourish the hair at the roots. Spread the balm evenly all over your beard. Don't forget your mustache.

BEARD WAX

Wax also hydrates your facial hair and nourishes the hair follicle, but its main benefit is that it helps keep your beard and mustache in place. This product has a harder consistency than balm and you can use it every time you want to comb or improve the appearance of your beard.

"The wax helps keep the beard and mustache in place."

Like beard balm, wax is another essential product, but it should only be used on long beards that have already reached a length greater than 1 cm. If you have a thick and unruly beard or mustache, surely you will need a product that is able to keep them in place and, this is what beard and mustache waxes have been created for, to stylize and keep the beard and hair firm. mustache. If the oil is used to soften your beard, the wax is used to hold it in place. When you go to look for beard and mustache waxes you will find many balms that will pretend to make you believe that they are waxes. Don't be fooled, wax is much stronger than balms, and while balm would end up serving the function of wax for many men, wax is made for those with really unruly thick beards and mustaches.

HOW TO APPLY BEARD OR MUSTACHE WAX?

Use your thumbnail to scoop out a small amount of beard and mustache wax and rub it between your palms until it is diluted. To apply the product, run your fingers and palms over the beard.
